The Viking Tomato, a homegrown heirloom tomato of unknown variety

The Viking Tomato

This is my favorite tomato I've ever grown, and here's the funny part — nobody knows what variety it actually is. We lost track of the genetics years ago, so we just call it the Viking Tomato now.

What we do know: it's an indeterminate plant that'll climb 6-7 feet tall if you let it, and it rewards you for the trellis. Large, beefsteak-style tomatoes, and the plant produces boatloads of them — one of the most productive tomatoes I've ever grown. Meaty, low on seeds, and delicious any way you use it.

Every walking onion order comes with a handful of Viking Tomato seeds, free. We only have a small supply, so each order includes up to 10 seeds — once they're gone, they're gone until we save more from next season's harvest.

These are perennial onions that grow like a cross between a green onion and a shallot — and they're the hardiest plant in the garden, by far. We've got customers growing this exact variety in Alaska and northern Canada, surviving -40°F winters without a problem. Once you get them, you'll never be without them again — they come back year after year, and pretty soon you'll be giving bulbs away to friends, family, and neighbors.
